What Are The Different Types of Transformer?
Transformers are a very important tool in the Electrical Industry. They are used as a passive device for transferring electrical energy from one circuit to another electrical circuit. When working in the electrical power system field, you have the advantage of selecting from a long list of transformers. Step up and Step down Transformer
Step up and step down transformers are distinct from others in that they have a unique number of turns in the Primary and Secondary Windings. For step up transformers, they are used for increasing alternative voltages at low currents. They can emit a high current AC with a low voltage, and turn it into a high voltage. In contrast, a step down transformer can transform a high primary voltage associated with the low current into something that has low voltage, high current.
Power Transformer
The Power Transformer was designed to transfer electrical energy from any section in the electrical circuit to the main power generator or to the distribution primary circuits. These transformers are commonly immersed in liquid, with the life span lasting around 30 years or less. These can be classified into three categories, with those being the small power transformers, medium power transformers and large power transformers.
Distribution Transformer
Instrument transformers, known as Isolation Transformers, are electrical devices designed for transforming at the current and voltage level. They are most commonly used to safely provide the final voltage process in the electrical power system. You can often see these in use on pole wires. If located underground or on ground level, they are mounted on concrete pads or locked in steel cases.
