About Rohr, Inc.
Rohr, Inc. is an American aerospace manufacturing company that is headquartered in Chula Vista, California. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies within the Collins Aerospace division, Rohr primarily focuses on the production of aerostructures and other aviation components.
Rohr, Inc. was first established by Frederick H. Rohr in 1940, and the initial naming of the business was Rohr Aircraft Corporation. As the creator of the fuel tanks that were used on the Spirit of St. Louis, Rohr utilized their expertise to begin producing aircraft components. In 1969, the company was incorporated as Rohr Corporation, though they changed their name only two years later to Rohr Industries, Inc.
During the 1960s and 1970s, Rohr entered the mass transit market with equipment manufacturing. At this time, Rohr produced railcars that served both San Francisco’s Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) system and the Washington Metro system. Alongside the production of railcars and other mass transit equipment, Rohr also acquired companies such as Flxible in order to begin producing buses.
When Rohr Industries became Rohr, Inc. in 1992, it was also listed on the New York Stock Exchange. In 1997, however, Rohr was purchased and merged with Goodrich Corporation. Through their subsequent merger with Rockwell Collins, Rohr has since remained a part of the Collins Aerospace division which currently acts as a subsidiary of Raytheon Technologies.
