About Hartzell Propeller
Hartzell Propeller is an American manufacturer of composite and aluminum propellers for certified, homebuilt, and ultralight aircraft. The company produces propellers, spinners, governors, Ice Protection systems, and other propeller controls. The company was founded in 1917 when Robert Hartzell started using wood from his walnut trees to produce aircraft propellers for his planes and others. The company was founded soon after and began providing propellers for World War I aircraft. After the war, Hartzell began producing their own aircraft.
During World War II, Hartzell produced metal propellers for Hamilton-Standard. In 1948, the company began making aluminum propellers and developed the first full-feathering propellers for light twin-engine aircraft in the 1950s. These were used in aircraft such as the Aero Commander, Piper Apache, Cessna 310, and Beech Twin Bonanza. Hartzell Propeller is a subsidiary of Tailwind Technologies Inc., who are also the parent company of Hartzell Engine Technologies.
